Before Class Experience
A key component to professionalism, approachability and energy for your class, it is critical to always be ready at least 5 minutes before the scheduled class start time.
- Know your class design, it's flow, layout, structure and exercises
- Ensure you have a playlist with appropriate music selected for the class. c. Instructor present and approachable - check in and welcome members by name d. Awareness of injury and pregnancy pre-screen and welcome first timers e. Introduce yourself to members who you don’t know or haven’t met yet.
Know your Crowd
Reading the room and its participants determines your music selection and how you hold space
- Adapt to who is in front of you, and how many members are in front of you b. Adjust temperature of room appropriate to class style/amount of people c. Clearly demonstrate poses and transitions and explain with a clear voice and appropriate tone and volume.
- Introduce yourself at the start of class on the mat.
Serve with Purpose
How you move about the room and add value to a members experience in your class is the fundamental skill set that you are adding above and beyond any other teacher.
- Make your presence felt and add value to the members experience by awareness of how you hold space in the room
- Every member should feel like they were the center of your attention c. Avoid teaching only from the front of the room. Move around the room and if comfortable offer manual posture adjustment to assist members learn the poses. d. Always offer progressions or modifications for shapes to allow members to make it harder or easier depending on their ability.
- Identify and understand the purpose of your class on the day
Studio Presentation
Applies to both the before and after class experience, as well as in between classes. At every opportunity we provide a clean, well presented studio for each new group of members.
- Studio is restocked, neat and atmosphere correct at least 5 mins prior to class commencement
- Between each class, the studio should look as it did before the first class of the block
- Exhale scent - Have diffuser working, no alternative scents pleased. Full pack away and tidy shelves after each block per the studio layout provided
After Class Experience
A key component to how the member feels when they leave the studio and club. This is your chance to connect with members and receive feedback
- Stay back for 5 minutes after the class and chat to members. Perhaps give some members feedback on their technique and offer some helpful tips.
- Pack up the class if required, leaving the studio/area as neat and tidy as possible
- Be the last person to leave the room
