Before Class Experience
A key component to professionalism, approachability and energy for your class, it is critical to always be ready at least 5 minutes before the scheduled class start time.
- Know your class design, it's flow, layout, structure and exercises
- Ensure you have a playlist with appropriate music selected for the class. c. Instructor present and approachable - check in and welcome members by name d. Conversation before class starts, injury and pregnancy pre-screen and welcome first timers
- Correct reformer bed setup and orientation to machine
- Introduce yourself to members who you don’t know or haven’t met yet.
Know your Crowd
Reading the room and its participants determines your music selection and how you coach
- Adapt to who is in front of you, and how many members are in front of you b. Demonstrate exercises if required and explain with a clear voice and appropriate tone and volume.
- Have verbal cues to explain an exercise if participants are struggling. d. Introduce yourself to members who you don’t know or haven’t met yet.
Serve with Purpose
How you move about the room and add value to a members experience in your class is the fundamental skill set that you are adding above and beyond any other instructor.
- Make your presence felt and add value to the members experience b. Every member should feel like they were the center of your attention c. Avoid just teaching from one part of the room. Move around the room and if comfortable offer manual posture adjustment to assist members learn the movements.
- Always offer progressions/regressions and spring choices for exercises to allow members to make it harder or easier depending on their fitness level.
- BE the energy in the room. Positivity, encouragement and support at every opportunity
Studio Presentation
Applies to both the before and after class experience, as well as in between classes. At every opportunity we provide a clean, well presented studio for each new group of members.
- Studio is fully set up and ready to go at least 5 mins prior to class commencement
- Between each class, the studio should look as it did before the first class of the block
- Boxes under bed complete with spray, wipes, props
- Springs all on, straps tight, footrests neutral, boxes tidy after each block per the studio layout
After Class Experience
A key component to how the member feels when they leave the studio and club. This is your chance to connect with members and receive feedback
- Stay back for 5 minutes after the class and chat to members. Perhaps give some members feedback on their technique and offer some helpful tips.
- Pack up the class if required, leaving the studios neat and tidy as possible c. Be the last person to leave the room
- Ask the members if they will be attending a class next week, let them know that you are looking forward to seeing them again. 'If you have any questions, comments or feedback please come and see me'
- Final words of encouragement and thanks as first members begin to leave
